INTRODUCING FIELDOPS™
Our new all-in-one farm management platform
There is no denying the power of a good productivity app – especially when it is put in the palm of a farmer. Our brands have long been serving our customers with an array of different mobile and desktop applications to support their work.
With our company’s continued transformation and the strengthening of our tech stack, the time had come to further simplify our Ag customers’ digital experience with our equipment and services.
The Precision and Electronics team began researching and writing code for a new mobile and browser-based application and digital experience. The goal was to bring all fleet and farm capabilities together – acting as a central hub to connect, view and manage operations. This needed to go together with excellent navigation and user experience.
Lisa Jackson
So how could we give our customers the best digital experience? Enter Lisa Jackson, Head of User Experience & Design, and her team charged with establishing a Common Design Language (CDL), starting with this new app, but extending more broadly across all in-cab displays and cloud-based farm management software.
“A unified look and feel to our systems drive brand recognition and create cohesion that results in a customer experience centered on success,” Jackson describes.
And so, the FieldOpsTM mobile app and web experience began to take form. The process by which it came to be is an excellent example of cross One Team collaboration involving global colleagues from every functional team in the Precision & Electronics Product Development and User Experience & Design teams – meaning Software engineering and product management, as well as involving the wider Ag segment business and Ag brand teams. Jackson describes them as “a small, but fierce team” which worked hard and well together to develop an app that would perform to customer expectations and deliver a better experience in its core functionalities compared to our competitors.
Once a beta version of the app was available, the team began testing it with customers in the American Midwest. Testing later expanded to global locations. To increase efficiency, much of the feedback on what didn’t work was sent via an AI chatbot that directly reported bugs to the software development team working on the app, allowing them to make rapid fixes.
The development of FieldOps™ is a key milestone because it streamlines, simplifies, and centralizes the entire CNH user experience.
FieldOps™ is designed to be iOS, Android and web browser native, meaning that farmers that use these platforms can easily understand how to navigate the app because its interface and functionality are already familiar to them.
And behind the façade, it is engineered to be the foundation that we move forward with in all applications, empowering our customers to do everything from one single app – starting with fleet, where in addition to Ag products, our customers can also view any CNH construction equipment they are operating on their farm within the app as well.
Personally, what I'm most excited about is the untapped potential that we are just beginning to realize when a mobile phone is used in the cab. Further ahead we can use this technology to collect insights across our platforms, such as customer satisfaction data. My team and I are really looking forward to introducing all these new capabilities,” says Jackson.
The FieldOpsTM app launched globally in August.
