CASE’S NEW ELECTRIC BACKHOE LOADER IS AN INDUSTRY FIRST

In a first for the construction industry, our CASE Construction Equipment brand has launched the first production-ready electric backhoe loader.
In this issue of On the Ground we speak to the people behind the making of this award-winning new machine.
The 580EV Electric Backhoe Loader has already been making global headlines as a winner at the Good Design Awards. CASE was recognized for its commitment to innovation and sustainability by offering this alternative power solution to the construction industry. The 580EV features a sleek design with electric blue decaling, ergonomic controls, and an operator-focused cab equipped with an 8-inch touch screen display that ensures ease of use and efficiency.
As with all our brands, the exterior only tells part of the story. Let’s take a deep dive and find out what makes the 580EV Electric Backhoe Loader special.
Not only is the 580EV a zero-emissions backhoe loader, it boasts long lasting power thanks to its lithium-ion battery that keeps it running throughout the working day. It can be fully charged in eight hours at any power point. Fuel and maintenance costs can be reduced by up to 90% compared to diesel-powered equivalents. These machines can also be operated indoors without carbon monoxide concerns. Then there’s the big reduction in noise meaning the 580EV is perfect for working in both residential and urban areas. Operating an electric backhoe loader also means lower vibrations and a more comfortable experience for the operator in the cab.

Eric Zieser
Eric Zieser, North America based Global Compact CE Product Portfolio, says electrification of our equipment is a critical step in our journey towards the future.
“The 580EV is the third product line that we have electrified within CNH, but a significant one given the history of CASE as the Inventor of the Backhoe Loader in 1957. In addition, the 580EV not only matches the distinct EV benefits that all our other EV products offer, but this one is critical for our customers in government and utility segments where the backhoe loader is one of their primary tools as they service the American infrastructure. In addition, we have utilized the development of the 580EV to propel our advancements of the CASE backhoe loader itself and together with electrification we have developed a brand new hydraulic system, display/operator interface and features that we can now carry-over to the rest of our diesel models.”

Brady Lewis
Brady Lewis, North America CE Product Manager, Emerging Products & Technology, explained how the buzz and interest around the 580EV has helped with introductions to new customers.
“The electric backhoe loader has given us an opportunity to talk to new customers. The 580EV being an industry first has generated a lot of interest. This has opened doors for us that had previously been closed. We've visited customers to talk about EVs and they've not only liked it but also asked about our other products too. This has resulted in additional sales of CASE machines.”

Vito Martina
Vito Martina, Head of the Electric Product Development Team in Lecce, Italy, added:
“The team that worked on the project stood out for their multidisciplinary expertise. With well-developed technical and soft skills, the team tackled the project's challenges as One Team with enthusiasm and passion, always aligning with the strategy of moving towards electric technology.”
