Former Belgian cycling champion, Patsy Maegerman
How life as a professional cyclist put me on the road to success at CNH
CNH gave me a chance at a second career and I took it. I am a good example of someone who started from the bottom and worked my way up. I joined the company 10 years ago as an expediter within spare parts and now I am responsible for Dealer Parts Support (DPS) for Benelux and France. This role gives me the opportunity to guide, train and manage a team. We follow up spare parts orders and support dealers by solving any issues they may have. The support we give can be very wide and varied. It is important that dealers use our applications in order to, as much as possible, work autonomously. Our goal as a team is always Customer First. I love the variety in my job and being able to develop relationships with our dealers.

But, it is my previous life as a professional athlete that set the foundations for all my success since. It is that grounding in competitive cycling, where I was a multiple Belgian champion and a world vice champion, that has given me the energy and drive to succeed here. I am married to Christophe Lauwers, a former professional footballer with two caps for Belgium. We have two daughters, Luna, who is 23 and Iza, 20. I only met my husband after I finished my own sporting career then I followed his, which took us abroad for several years. It was after both of our sporting careers ended that we started our second life where I was determined to find the ideal job.
Having had many different jobs previously, I found CNH 10 years ago. It hasn’t always been easy but through hard work, staying motivated, and the confidence the company has shown in me, I’ve been able to get to where I am. Sport is and always will be a big part of my life so, at times, it has been difficult balancing it with my current position. But in the past few months I have found stability and started focusing on cycling again.

I have learned to persevere, to achieve results and, above all, to fight for them. I try to show that in my current job so that we achieve results. Sport remains my passion because I am convinced that it’s essential to feeling good physically and mentally. It’s an escape from day-to-day stress and that’s why I hope, through being the Belgian Ambassador for our Biking New Ground initiative, that I can convince colleagues to take up cycling whether that be recreationally or as an alternative mode of transport to and from work. It is never too late to saddle up. You just have to take the first step and, above all, encourage each other as together we are stronger, and success is always possible.
